World of Warcraft: new patch and new MMORPG

The last time that I wrote on this World of Warcraft blog it was on may, when I was first in Warsong Gulch with one of my WoW characters, Weirdtales. Many things have happened since then, maybe the best surprise has been World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the last expansion of the best Blizzard game. Maybe you too are enjoying Cataclysm, but Blizzard is working on a new mmorpg, Titan (that's the codename).

Will be Titan as succesful as World of Warcraft? Unfortunately there are now few details about this mmorpg, but it's sure that it won't be a sequel of WoW. According to Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime Titan will be a mmorpg where Blizzard team will try to leverage what they have learned from WoW and other games. So they are trying to implement features and elements that they cannot put in World of Warcraft...but what will Titan look like?

It is impossibile to say at the moment, but it will be surely very different from WoW. At Blizzard, they are trying to develop a “social mmorpg”, where players are much more involved in their guilds and can fight against their real friends. I don't know if this mmorpg will be loved by World of Warcraft players. Many wow players like PVE and playing on their own, helping other players when needed and joining groups just during dungeons. It seems that Titan wants to duplicate the success of some Facebook social games.

I'm curios to see this new mmorpg, but I hope it will have a greater success than some other Blizzard social initiatives, like Real ID. Anyway, let's carry on playing World of Warcraft! There are now some hotfixes related to the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm patch 4.0.6, including the Dungeon Finder changes. You can find here the uptadated list of hotfixes.

Being first in Warsong Gulch

Warsong Gulch (WG) is one of the funniest battlegrounds (BG) in World of Warcraft, where you play in PVP to capture the flag of the opposite faction.

Warsong Gulch is the battleground where you can play even at lower levels (already from 10), unlike, for example, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley.

While with my Warrior results were rather poor, I found the right feeling my Paladin (his name is Weirdtales). I think he is very versatile (and funny!) for this battleground: good to defend the flag at the base, excellent in the fight, generous to defend the player who bears the flag. And sometimes it even happens to kill many opponents, as you can see from the chart below:

Warsong Gulgh

A great satisfaction, I was the first in almost everything: killing blows, damage done, honor points, second by a hair in the healing done. And of course the Alliance has won :-)

With the Warrior, I said, poor results, but not always, it depends very much on the group. If the team was united and we were many to defend, I had great satisfactions. With Warrior I was much better at defending the flag at the base and if there was a small group to defend, I got several killing blows and honor points.

World of Warcraft now available on iPad

It seems incredible, but also World of Warcraft could run on iPad in the near future. This is thanks to Gaikai, bringing the famous Blizzard MMORPG on iPad via streaming. A specific app for World of Warcraft was not developed: the game should be played in fact via browser using HTML5.

Gaikai is actually a new approach to online gaming. In the cloud computing era, when photos, videos, documents, email and more are manageable online, it becomes very archaic having heavy clients to play online games. Gaikai hosts games in its servers to make them available via streaming at any computer connected to the Internet. Its technology is still experimental, but those interested can sign up as beta testers from this page.

So all MMORPGs could be played online using this technology, not only on the iPad, but also on any iPhone and smartphones that support a browser. All this stuff will delight many World of Warcraft addicted, although some questions remain:

  • Will Apple allow this, since you can play WoW and other games without having to pass through the App Store?

  • Will World of Warcaft really be playable via web browser?

Especially the second question puzzles us: it is not enough that World of Warcraft runs on iPad, tha game should also be playble and satisfying. And on the Internet there is only a picture of World of Wacraft on iPad, but no videos yet. We'll see :-)

Light leather: how to get and find it in World of Warcraft

Getting light leather in WoW may seem an insurmountable problem for a young noob. You have to face the problem when choosing professions such as blacksmithing (but also engineering) that matches the mining usually as first / second profession.

When I needed it, I tried in vain to buy it from Stormwind, but then I discovered several ways to get the sought and rare light leather:

  • Do not try to buy from resellers (NPC): they do not sell light leather.

  • The easiest way is to buy it in Action Houses (AH) that are located in major cities of WoW (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus, Booty Bay, etc...)

  • If you do not need it urgently and prefer to rely on luck (with secure savings!), You can find light leather inside battered chests (see the picture below), which have a high percentage of drop. You can optimize your time by clicking here, where you find the maps showing the locations where to find the battered chest in the various WoW regions.

  • There are no mobs with a high percentage of drop: it's better not wasting time with them and rely on the battered chests.

  • Create a new character in WoW and choose skinning profession: creating light leather is very simple, then just email it (inside the game!) to another character.

So, getting light leather is not that difficult, but not as easy as suggested by this allkhazam.com page: the Innkeeper Firebrew of Ironforge does not sell light leather :-)
